Esko man finds Winterfest medallion
Primary tabs
An Esko man is the winner of this year's Red Rock Radio Winterfest Medallion Hunt — and its $5,000 prize from Fond-du-Luth Casino.
Bob Thornton, 38, found the 3-inch clear acrylic disk on Wednesday morning in Norton Park in western Duluth, the radio station group reported in a news release. It was just east of Spirit Mountain and just south of the DWP Trail, frozen to the ground in a grove of cedar trees.
The hunt started Jan. 18, with clues broadcast each weekday. The discovery came after 18 clues were revealed.
That's more than the 13 clues required last year — but short of the record 21 clues revealed in 2014.
