The Christmas holiday season lights in Rice Park and ice skating at Landmark Center weren’t the only kickoffs in downtown St. Paul on Saturday night.

The designs for the 2015 St. Paul Winter Carnival were unveiled as part of the tree lighting, kicking off “The Coolest Celebration on Earth.” Members of the Winter Carnival Royal Family, Klondike Kates and representatives from the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation were on hand for the unveiling of the four button designs.

The four designs were created by Chad Peterson, a local freelance artist and longtime Winter Carnival Ice Carving Contest competitor. Peterson has won several ice carving competitions in the team and individual categories. He designed the buttons for the 2013 and 2014 Winter Carnivals.

The 2015 Winter Carnival buttons are $5 for one and $19 for the collector’s pack of all four images, available at SuperAmerica, Cub Foods, area retailers and at winter-carnival.com.

The 129th St. Paul Winter Carnival will be Jan. 22 to Feb. 1.
