The older we get, the faster times fly.
This we can't alter, although we ask why.
Calendar pages we quickly tear off.
Fall's cap we don and summer's we doff.

Days fly like leaves in autumnal breezes.
Cold and not ragweed will be causing sneezes.
Soon, we'll be hunting for Heimatfest gold.
Herein the hunt rules are presently told.

Heimatfest Cluemeister Marilyn pronounces,
She's hid medallion of many troy ounces.
None of her subsequent hints take you lightly.
Seekers for fame shall not disdain them blithely.

Stay you on lands that the public holds common,
Traverse within city limits; seek Mammon.
Stray you not onto your neighbors' lands.
They will not applaud you with smiles nor with hands.

Also remember to look e'er you leap.
Coin may be hidden on hillside so steep,
Not under water or dug in the ground.
To hide it in plain sight we surely are bound.

Nor is it higher than one's normal reach.
Tree-climbing is not a thing that we teach.
Obey all relevant curfews and speed laws.
Venture out upright and not on all four paws.

Once these injunctions you're finally given,
Out to the gold hunt consider yourselves driven.
Farewell all you hunters, until next week's JI.
Heed Garrison Keillor's usual bye-bye.*

*"Be Well, Do Good Work, and Keep in Touch," as heard on Minnesota Public Radio.

Though bridges are now in the news,
We can't delay making new clues.
And now too we're lacking in rain,
Causing farmers and gard'ners much pain.

If wildfires singe vegetation,
It will be a gold revelation.
Shining out from grassy knoll,
Peeps coin from under ash pall.

Biding its time day and night,
Fairly and squarely in sight,
Heimatfest gold waits in glee,
"Here, here I am, come get me!"

Put 'tween a rock and a hard place,
Nestled in its only green space,
It may shout but maybe should whisper.
To make itself heard over Whistler.

When hunting for gold, please bring water,
For your thirsty son or your daughter.
You'll need it a lot for your hunting,
'Cause gold's not announced by its bunting.

How lucky you live by a church.
It aids quite a bit in your search.
The Heimatfest prize hangs up nearby.
To find it you'll need to be spry.

A church is a fine institution.
Do walk around its convolution.
Its influence really is wide.
But where does the coinage abide?

Round about walls look you hither.
And hope that rain prevents wither.
If flower petals do fall,
Bare branches and stems reveal all.

Inside you may pray for rain.
Outside there's gold for your gain.
Bring it to our city hall.
Before the torrents do fall.

I sit and wait for the phone--to ring,
Telling me someone has found--the thing,
That searchers all over our town--do seek,
Looking for gold that from grass--does peek.

We know that the hunters include: our Gil,
Who stated that he'll find the coin. He will?
So, why hasn't anyone made--the call?
Or did the stash fall down the hill--or wall?

The hill and or wall are just west--of church.
Do not leave gold out there in--the lurch.
With only three weeks 'til fest--ival.
Without gold it won't be much of a car--nival.

So hie you up to a nice new neigh-borhood.
Look up, down, and all around-that's good.
The city protects the young trees-with chips.
You'll be in clover right up to-your hips.
