Our firefighters, we thank them for job so well done

A goose that lays a golden egg
A joy would be for those who beg,
Cryptic hints in these lines we’ve spun
To kindle our theme… Fire up for Fun!

We hide, you seek, so go the rules
If you have interest in our jewels,
Blacktop, asphalt, concrete, dirt
You must decide with which to flirt.
Explanation:
The goose that laid the golden egg refers one to the Jack in the Beanstalk story; parts of the story are also cited by reference to a giant and a thief. The walking path changes from asphalt to dirt near the site.

One jack with Jill went up a hill
One jack on beanstalk went higher still,
One jack could never eat the fat
And little jack horner in a corner sat.

A child’s rhyme you did not know
‘ready passed botanic popcorn show,
Study those words and share the news
And for sure dig out your walking shoes.
Explanation:
Of the four Jacks mentioned, only three are nursery rhymes. Jack in the Beanstalk is singled out - it’s a fairy tale, not a nursery rhyme. The “botanic popcorn show” refers to the flowers of the catalpa tree which look like popcorn. Our catalpa tree flowers have (al)’ready passed this year.

Daddy caught him on a hook
That fishy fishy in the brook,

10,000 lakes this land does hold
Sometimes warm and sometimes cold,
‘Course medallions know not how to swim
And did not care those brothers grimm
Explanation:
The hiding place was along the walking path. The hiding place was on the edge of one of Minnesota’s “10,000 lakes”. The Grimm Brothers did not write Jack in the Beanstalk.

You’ve heard it said Fee-fi-fo-fum,
I smell the blood of an Englishman,
Be he live, or be he dead
I'll grind his bones to make my bread.

But Bignoniaceae have you heard?
Some might think it a freakish word,
Though truth be told and in the end
Those thinkers think it now a friend.
Explanation:
Fee-fi-fo-fum refers again to the fairy tale Jack in the Beanstalk and also points to “grinding”, what used to be done at the Grist Mill.

Follow the grist and follow the pod
Random encounters with foliage broad,
Jack pine, tamarack, catalpa, oak, and ash
A fine pulpy course where the end is the stash.

Dragons, lords, witches, ladies and kings
A giant of sorts, seeds availing their wings,
A village of good has a handful of thieves
And down a grand beanstalk he slides when he leaves.
Explanation:
The seedpods of the catalpa tree have the appearance of green beans and have “wings” that help seeds disperse. They are commonly referred to as “bean trees” and have broad foliage, giant-size.

The final word refers one to look in the leaves of the tree.
