KQDS-FM, the organizer of past WinterFests and the associated hunts, was sold by Red Rock Radio (the sponsor of Winterfest) in August, 2016, and as such there isn't going to be a WinterFest this year. However, in an effort to keep the hunt alive, Knockerball Twin Ports has put up $1000 in prize money and will be sponsoring this year's hunt.

The sign is two Frank
For it faces the prize
You may want to stop
Take time to analyze
Explanation:
This clue refers to a historical sign “SS Meteor” on Barkers Island. In the text of the sign it refers to the Frank Rockefeller also known as the SS Meteor this being one of the Franks. The second Frank is Franklin D. Roosevelt. The sign tells a story about him as a little boy watching the launching of the SS Meteor and being swept into the slip by the waves. This sign also faces the prize so you should search in front of the sign and not behind it.

To get the most
Out of this post
Check the pile
It'll be worthwhile
Explanation:
This clue might have been the most useless clue of them all because when the medallion was hidden it was in a drift or pile of snow at the time. It was one of the areas on Barker’s with the most snow. Due to the warm weather and rain this pile soon disappeared. The clue’s intention was to point you to a drift. (the clue master now knows snow clues are terrible clues)

The one with a view
Had started a feud
Over some hullabaloo
Oh you shouldn't be rude
Explanation:
This clue was referring to the rumored feud started between Martin Pattison (Fairlawn Mansion) and Captain Charles Barker which would direct you to look on Barkers Island for the medallion. The rumored feud stats Captain Barker supposedly dumped sand from the bay in front of Martin’s mansion to ruin his view because he would raise lumber prices when Captain Barker needed lumber.

Explanation:
This clue was like past medallion hunts. The Mayor of the city the medallion was hidden in would recite a clue revealing the location. This year we put our own spin on it and picked a candidate for Mayor of Superior, Kalee Hermanson to read the clue.

On your stroll
Cue up The Beatles
If you get lost
Look for the needles
Explanation:
This clue was simply written to direct you that the medallion would be hidden near “needles”. Just to the southeast of the medallion was a group of tall pines that shed their needles. Some people thought a clue was in a Beatles song but the Beatles was just a band picked to rhyme with needles.

This clue directs you to look at satellite imaging, and mentions 7,8,9. If you draw straight lines from the 7th, 8th and 9th avenues you will save some time only by searching within the lines drawn over to Barker's Island.

Hey diddle diddle
No cattails no fiddle
The cow jumped over six half moons
The little dog laughed
When he watched pond hockey
And the kids were digging with spoons
Explanation:
Again looking at satellite imaging you would find “six half moons” or six concrete slabs that hold picnic benches on them. This clue also brings up there are no cattails where you should be searching and the last part of the clue again hints towards the medallion being on Barker’s Island because it references pond hockey which is held there every year.

On an island of sand
Lies an island of trees
Make your way here
A prize you will seize
Explanation:
Again looking at satellite imaging to help out, the island of sand is Barker’s Island and the island of trees can be seen from the satellite imaging. This was meant to pull people away from looking across the road in the woods and look near the island of trees on the southern side of the island.

A dollar bill will give you a map
Find 1776
One corner is a stump
The other is a seat
The prize is where the points meet
Explanation:
I was dying to get this clue out…I am a huge fan of the movie National Treasure and always like searching for medallions putting clues together like in the movie. This clue has you look on the back of a dollar bill to find 1776. In the Great Seal on the dollar bill, the bottom of the pyramid has 1776 in roman numerals. If you line up the stump and bench near the medallion and draw a pyramid, the lines intersect where the medallion is hidden.

Sitting on a bench
You will need to turn around
Count the steps in clue #16
Your search will be nearly ground
Explanation:
If you sit on the bench near the medallion you will be facing the wrong way. Turning around you will be facing the medallion. This clue also helps tell you how tall the pyramid is (or the steps needed to take from the two reference points in clue #16), count the layers or steps in the pyramid on the dollar bill (12 layers, 13 including the top)

In the summer
You'll notice a flock
Keep behind you
A bench and a dock
Explanation:
This clue is meant to narrow your search down to one specific bench that is near the fishing dock and is also one of the reference points in the pyramid. It also tells you that the dock and bench will be behind you when searching. Geese and ducks also congregate here in the summer time.

But in the open and
You'll find it with ease

This clue was to really clear up any doubts how far you should be from the stump. It also reassures that when you are digging in the open that you are in the right spot.
