There’s something nearby
That seems to imply
You are not where you thought you should be
And In fact not the same
As the rules of the game
A place, while there, you can’t see
Explanation:

Very near the hiding spot of the medallion is a green utility box labeled CLOQUET WATER PUMP 44 - implying that the area you are in is Cloquet. The area is actually within Duluth city limits. Cloquet is approximately 27 miles away and is not included in the official search area.

The Medallion’s locality
With some generality
Lies squarely in the midst of a view
Please heed this advice
Amid snow and the ice
And give guidelines a respectful review
Explanation:

In order to reach the area of the medallion’s location along the Park Point Nature Trail, a hiker needs to pass through a heavily wooded section owned by the state of Minnesota. When you come to the end of the first section, there are a number of utility boxes and buildings with a clear view of both the lakeside and harborside of Lake Superior.

In sun and in shade
This next clue we made
Will be much more than how it appears
Observations required
And if you’re inspired
You’ll be wise to seek out where it’s clear.
Explanation:

The main point of this clue is after hiking through clear areas and shaded areas of the park Point Nature Trail, you want to wind up in a significant clearing – one similar to where the medallion was hiding. ‘Observation’ played no significant role in this clue other than you need to pay close attention to your surroundings.

If you’re to succeed
In the end you will need
To arrive in a particular nature
And please keep in mind
These hints will sometimes
Drop in, with direct nomenclature
Explanation:
Clue four indicates that you should take one or more of the words in this clue literally. In this case, the word is “nature” is key – suggesting you should look somewhere with the word ‘nature’ in it. The medallion was hidden along the Park Point Nature Trail.

It won’t be a stretch
To seek out a sketch
That’s intended to give a good vibe
And we think it’s cool
It’s feel-good fuel
To help search for what we describe
Explanation:

Along the Park Point Nature Trail, several PEACE SIGNS were displayed. That is the ‘sketch’ part of the clue you should have been looking for. The stretch was a weak reference to the length of the mainly singular trail.

Stay true on your course
A straight shot we endorse
Or indeed risk becoming side-tracked
If at the end you find nothing
You’ll deduct if you’re cunning
That you’ll certainly need to backtrack
Explanation:

The abandoned historic ZERO POINT LIGHTHOUSE resides at the end of the Park Point Nature Trail. So if you reach ‘Zero’, you’ve reached ‘nothing’ and you’ve gone too far and need to ‘backtrack’.

It’s white and it’s green
And it’s one cool machine
Resting somewhere near the location
A good starting place
To get into this race
And perhaps, in the end, celebration
Explanation:

This clue references the spinning beacon that towers above the Sky Harbor Regional Airport. While not that noticeable during the day, the light rotates with green on one side and white on the other. Matt Martineau of Cloquet found the
medallion after this clue.

To prevent unnecessary ruin.
And follow instruction
And continue deduction

This contest's a challenge
We keep these clues balanced
Sometimes vague and sometimes specific.
Often times we use art
And history plays a part
But in the end, it is not scientific.
Explanation:

The medallion was not hidden in the nearby Minnesota 'Scientific' and Natural Area (see picture)

Of the galvanized type
Is near where the prize is residing.
Get out when you can
And maybe you'll land
At the place the medallion is hiding.
Explanation:

A galvanized pipe sticks out of the ground nearby with a peace sign sticker attached (see picture)

Several paces away
In peculiar display
Is the remnant of an old pick-me-up.
And it rests upside down
Perched just above ground
Yet nowhere, the sign of a cup.
Explanation:

Near the beach close to the medallion hunt hiding spot is a pipe sticking out of the ground and an old ARCO Coffee can is attached upside down on the top of it (see picture)

And resides in the medallion's proximity.
Be shrewd in your quest
And manage the stress
With composure and calm equanimity.

A recommendation
To find the location
Find an exit that appears upside down.
As strange as it seems
It's there and it beams
Close to where the disc will be found.
Explanation:

At the end of the Minnesota Natural and Scientific area is an upside down sign indicating you are leaving Minnesota state property. The medallion is about 100 feet from this spot. (see picture)

To make the destination
Forgive our pronunciation
Of a place that's along the seaboard.
Commute on the avenue
Whose motto's debut
Was known as L'Etoile du Nord (look up pronunciation)
Explanation:
To get to the spot, take Minnesota Avenue to Park Point. L'Etoile du Nord is the French motto for Minnesota (The Star of the North)

The valuable prize within reach.
In your quest to explore
This advice don't ignore

Past beach house and field
We now can reveal
That's where you'll discover the stash.
Alongside the runway
But make sure you stay
In an area where you won't trespass.
Explanation:
The medallion resides in an area parallel to the Sky Harbor Regional Airport - but not in a restricted area

As you search in the park
Under light and in dark
Here's something that helps it make sense.
To claim the dinero
The search you should narrow
To where you're in site of a fence.
Explanation:

The medallion lies in view of a fenced area. In this case, the tail end of the fenced area surrounding the airport. (see picture)
Our Thoughts:
Dammit. They used site instead of sight just like the Pioneer Press did!
